Producer Coastal Region, South Africa

Babylon's Peak

Babylon's Peak is both old and new in South Africa's Swartland. Stephan Basson's great-grandfather started the farm in 1919. The old cellar made wine right up to 1948.

The cellar then sat unused until Stephan did it up and began making wine again. The vineyards climb the slopes of the Paardeberg mountain, up to 700 metres, some of the highest in the area. They suit Chenin Blanc and Rhône grapes very well.

The wines are pure and bright, with a clarity you might not expect from such a hot region, and the prices are very friendly.
