Producer Rheingau, Germany

Balthasar Ress

Balthasar Ress is a Rheingau estate founded in 1870 by a hotelier of the same name. The fifth generation of the family runs it today.

Winery at Hattenheim, Rheingau.

The Rheingau is a happy accident of geography. Near Wiesbaden the Rhine turns west for about sixteen miles before heading north again, leaving a strip of south-facing slopes in one of Germany's sunniest, driest areas. The family still make the original house wine. Its name simply means 'from us'. There are plenty of fine single-vineyard wines too.
