Producer Languedoc-Roussillon, France

Baron de Badassière

Baron de Badassière makes fresh whites from Picpoul de Pinet, close to the sea in the Languedoc. The name comes from a vineyard near Pomérols once owned by Baron Charles Emmanuel. He was a colourful 18th-century figure, said to be the secret son of King Louis XV.

Winery at Pomérols, Languedoc-Roussillon.

The wines are made at the Pomérols co-operative by Marguerite Vasseur, working with Matt Thomson of Blank Canvas. Picpoul is the co-op's speciality, and Marguerite picks out the best parcels as they arrive.

Warm sunshine ripens the grapes, while sea breezes keep them fresh. In the cellar they keep it simple: little or no skin contact and no oak, so each grape tastes clean and true.
