Bedoba

Bedoba means 'Day of Luck'. It is a Georgian winery that focuses on Saperavi, the country's own dark-skinned, red-fleshed grape, made partly in qvevri, the traditional clay pots.

The vines are about 30 years old and grow in Kakheti, near the border with Azerbaijan, along the Duruji River valley. Black shale soils and slopes of the Caucasus at over 400 metres give fresh acidity and soft tannins. The team farms sustainably and organically, and picks and sorts by hand.

The original winery's cellars date from 1737. The Konchosvilli family started it, and they were close to the church. Winemakers Nugzar Ksovreli and Thierry Fontannaz put Saint Nina on the label in their honour. There is also an orange wine from Rkatsiteli and Kisi, full of dried apricot, honey and orange peel.
