Beringer
Beringer was started by two brothers from Mainz in Germany, Frederick and Jacob Beringer. They bought 215 acres at the foot of Spring Mountain in St. Helena, Napa Valley, and made their first wine in 1876.
Jacob built a stone cellar, and Chinese labourers dug around 1,000 feet of tunnels for ageing the wine. Frederick's grand Victorian house, finished in 1884, is still a Napa Valley landmark.
Beringer has kept making wine ever since, which makes it the oldest Napa Valley winery that has never stopped.
