Cantina di Monteforte

Cantina di Monteforte is a co-operative in the east of the Soave Classico zone, in the Veneto. Its 600 members farm more than 1,200 hectares, including some of the best sites in the Classico zone.

Most of the vines grow on hillsides that face south or south-east, which gives riper, fuller wines than most Soave. Cool air flows down the Alpone Valley from the Dolomite foothills, so warm days are followed by cool nights, and the grapes keep their aromas.

Matt Thomson of Blank Canvas worked for years with Gaetano Tobin, who ran the co-op for almost 20 years until he died in 2021. Winemaker Selen Uyar now leads production and keeps his high standards going. Soave is often overlooked, so these wines are great value, along with a fresh, strawberry-scented Pinot Grigio rosé.
