Causse du Théron

Causse du Théron is a Cahors project started in 2013 by soil expert Pedro Parra and Antonio Morescalchi, who runs Altos Las Hormigas in Argentina. They came to Cahors to learn where Malbec comes from.

The region's mix of soils won them over, above all the Kimmeridgian limestone terraces known locally as causses. As Pedro puts it, finding limestone in Argentina took five years, and here it took five minutes. They chose two vineyards: one on alluvial soil in an easy valley, and one on steep limestone terraces that have to be picked by hand.

Brothers Sebastien and Pierre Sigaud make the wines with wild yeasts in concrete tanks. Their father, Jean-Marie, led the quality revival in Cahors. Expect bright, pure Malbec with long, scented finishes and no oak getting in the way.
