Château Cissac

Château Cissac is an old Haut-Médoc property, dating back to 1769, in the northern part of the appellation. It is a Cru Bourgeois, and it belongs to the Vialard family.

Louis Vialard arrived in 1940 and spent decades building the wine's name. He died in 2009. By then his daughter Danielle had long been making the wine, and her own daughter Marie now works alongside her.

The vines grow on sandy, gravelly ground over limestone, with coastal pine forests keeping off the westerly winds. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up three quarters of the planting, with Merlot and a little Petit Verdot. The wine ferments in big wooden vats and ages in oak barrels, in a classic Médoc style.
