Château de Pierreux

Right in the middle of Brouilly, the biggest of the Beaujolais crus, you will find the 100-hectare Château de Pierreux. Jean-Claude Boisset has run it since 2002.

There are 77 hectares of old bush-vine Gamay, 40 to 45 years old, farmed on organic and biodynamic lines. Horses plough the soil so it doesn't get packed down around the roots. Brouilly's pink granite is known for giving its wines extra colour and depth.

In the cellar they keep things simple. The grapes are crushed by foot, wild yeasts do the fermenting, and the wine rests for six months in old oak foudres for a rounder, softer feel.
