Château du Moulin-à-Vent

Château du Moulin-à-Vent is an 18th-century property with its eyes on the future of Beaujolais. Jean-Jacques Parinet and Edouard, his son, took it on in 2009 and turned the vineyards organic.

The vines average 65 years old and grow on worn-down pink granite, with steady winds keeping the grapes fresh. They plant around 10,000 vines per hectare and keep yields low, at 20 to 35 hectolitres per hectare. Since 2015 they have replanted with cuttings from their own vines, to keep the local Gamay going.

In the cellar, the share of whole bunches and oak changes with each year and site. They use less new oak than before, so the fruit comes through, and the barrels sit in a 16th-century cellar cut into the granite.
