Château Ferran

Château Ferran is a 20-hectare estate in Martillac, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. It takes its name from Robert Ferran, a lawyer at the Bordeaux Parliament in the 1600s.

In the 1700s it became part of the lands of Montesquieu. The Béraud-Sudreau family have owned it since 1885, the year the present château was built. For a long time it was one of the quiet, overlooked properties of Bordeaux. It has been on the up since 1999, and the fifth generation, Philippe and Ghislaine Lacoste, now run it.

The gravel soils sit over clay and limestone. The reds lean on Merlot, and the whites are mostly Sauvignon.
