Château la Tour de l’Evêque

Château la Tour de l'Evêque, a lovely estate deep in Provence, sits among forest and garrigue. Long ago it was the summer home of the bishops of Toulon, hence the name, which means the bishop's tower.

Gabriel Sumeire bought it in 1958. Today his granddaughter Régine Sumeire runs it with her nephew Pierre-François de Bernardi. The estate is certified organic, and now biodynamic too.

Unusually, they keep plantings of many Provence grape varieties, some of them little known. Régine blends them into classic Provence wines with lots of texture and freshness.
