Producer Central Valley, Chile

Château Los Boldos

Château Los Boldos is in the Cachapoal Valley, in the Andes foothills of Chile. Sogrape bought it in 2008, and the estate has changed a great deal since.

Soil expert Pedro Parra studied the vineyards and matched each grape to the right soil, advising on rootstocks, spacing and watering too. The first vines were planted in 1948, and today there are 170 hectares, planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay for whites, and Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Syrah for reds. Warm days, cool nights and the nearby river help the grapes ripen while keeping fresh acidity.

Head winemaker Diego Veragara works with consultant Alberto Antonini, using only their own fruit. The whites are unoaked and the reds see a little used French oak, so the wines are fruity and true to each grape.
