Château Montrose

Château Montrose stands on a rise in Saint-Estèphe, looking out over the Gironde estuary. Étienne Théodore Dumoulin founded it in 1815, and by 1855 it was ranked a Second Growth, the youngest estate to reach that level.

The name comes from the heather that once covered the hillside. In flower it turned the slope pink, so it became Mont Rose. Martin and Olivier Bouygues have owned the estate since 2006.

Cabernet Sauvignon thrives here and makes up most of the vineyard, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc alongside. The team have also committed to organic farming.
