Château Picque Caillou

Château Picque Caillou sits right at the edge of the city of Bordeaux, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. It is one of only about six vineyards inside the Bordeaux ring road to have held out against the spread of the suburbs.

Its 21 hectares lie close to Haut-Brion and Pape Clément. The name points to the pebbly ground, laid down by the Garonne over thousands of years.

Etienne Denis owned it in the early 1900s, and for much of that century it was looked after by wealthy owners. Paulin Calvet later took charge of the day-to-day work, and Denis Dubourdieu and Valérie Lavigne joined as consultant winemakers.
