Cien y Pico

Cien y Pico began when four winemakers found ancient Garnacha Tintorera vines in Manchuela being dug up, and set out to save them. The name means 'hundred and something', a nod to the age of the vines.

The four are Zar Brooks, Elena Golakova Brooks, Luis Jiménez García and Nicola Tucci. They work with four old vineyards on the high Meseta of Castilla-La Mancha, at almost 1,000 metres, on poor limestone soils. It is very dry up there, with cool nights and strong sun.

These old bush vines of Garnacha, Tintorera and Bobal were usually used for blending. Here they make deep-coloured, juicy reds that are balanced and easy to enjoy. The team say they do very little to the fruit in the winery.
