Clos des Fous
Clos des Fous means the crazy men's vineyard. The Chilean team earned the nickname by heading further south and east than most, to find grapes grown in tougher conditions.
The partners are winemakers François Massoc and Paco Leyton, with Albert Cussen on the business side. Pedro Parra was one of the original four and now has his own label. The French name is a nod to the twelve years that Pedro and François spent in Burgundy.
They make cool-climate Chardonnay from Malleco, far in the south, and Cabernet Sauvignon from granite and volcanic soils in the Alto Cachapoal, near the Andes. Their red blends change every year, mixing grapes like Carignan, Malbec, Syrah, Cinsault and País.
