DeLoach

DeLoach began in 1973. Its founder, Cecil De Loach, was a San Francisco firefighter. The Burgundian Jean-Claude Boisset bought it in 2003.

His son Jean-Charles saw a lot of Burgundy in the Russian River Valley, and its promise for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. One of his first moves was to farm the seven hectares round the winery biodynamically. Brian Maloney, head winemaker since 2003, has explored the valley's different soils and focused on small lots.

There is also a good-value range from certified sustainable partner growers in the Delta region, where the Sacramento River keeps things cool. Expect Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with fresh acidity.
