des Bosquets
Domaine des Bosquets is a family estate in Gigondas, in France's southern Rhône. Julien Bréchet took it over in 2009 and has become one of the region's leading winemakers.
Wine has been made here for more than six centuries, and the first recorded Gigondas vines were planted on this land in 1376. Today there are 26 hectares of vines up to 75 years old below the jagged peaks of the Dentelles de Montmirail. He has found three soil types at different heights, marl, sandy clay and blue clay, and each gives a different style of fruit. He is moving the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming.
He picks a little earlier and uses little oak to keep the wines fresh and elegant. Unusually for Gigondas, he also makes single vineyard wines from Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah.
