Domaine du Nozay

Domaine du Nozay is a family estate in the north of Sancerre, based at a small seventeenth-century château close to Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois. Baron Philippe de Benoist and Marie-Hélène, his wife, made it their home in 1970.

They planted their first hectare of Sauvignon Blanc a year later and grew the vineyard to 15 hectares over time. Their son Cyril runs the place now. The vines grow on the clay and limestone soils that locals call terres blanches.

Farming has been certified organic since 2011 and biodynamic since 2017. They even play sound to the vines through speakers during the day, aiming for healthier plants. In the cellar, the juice ferments with its own wild yeasts in steel vats.
