Producer Beaujolais, France

Domaine Grégoire Hoppenot

Grégoire Hoppenot ran Maison Trénel, the Chapoutier family's Beaujolais project, before setting up his own domaine in Fleurie. He rents nine hectares there, plus a small plot in Morgon.

His vines are going through organic certification and grow on granite and sand, which gives fresh, precise wines. He works gently, with wild yeasts and very little sulphur, and calls his winemaking intuitive. In 2021 the Revue des Vins de France named him Discovery of the Year.

Expect bright, perfumed Fleurie with raspberry and cherry fruit, often made with whole bunches in concrete.
