Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot
Jean-Marc Boillot made wine for Olivier Leflaive before starting his own domaine in 1985, with rented vines in Pommard and Volnay. He later inherited more vines, including a third share of Puligny-Montrachet's Domaine Etienne Sauzet.
Jean-Marc now lives in retirement in the south of France. His daughter Lydie now runs the domaine with her husband, winemaker François Alzingre. There are 10 hectares in the Côte d'Or, about half red and half white, plus 13 in the Mâconnais, which they first turned to after hail hit their Côte d'Or vines.
The whites are as restrained and elegant as ever, and the reds have become easier to enjoy thanks to a lighter touch. Their Mâconnais Gamay might even win over a Gamay doubter or two.
