Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard
Caroline Lestimé, Jean-Noël Gagnard's daughter, has run this Chassagne-Montrachet domaine since 1989. Most of its 12.5 hectares are in the heart of Chassagne.
Since 2014 the vines have been certified organic, and they are farmed on biodynamic lines too. In the cellar the approach is hands-off in the best way. Grapes are pressed as whole bunches and fermented in oak, no more than 30 per cent new and only lightly toasted, then aged for around 18 months.
The whites have a hint of struck match and lots of clear, pure fruit, and they get better with time in bottle. There is red Chassagne too, a nod to the village's long history with Pinot Noir, and some Crémant de Bourgogne.
