Producer Loire, France

Domaine Joël Delaunay

Domaine Joël Delaunay is a family estate in Touraine. Thierry Delaunay, the fifth generation, runs it today. Like his father Joël, who started bottling at the estate in 1970, Thierry likes to lead the way.

In 2004 he became the first Touraine producer to use screwcaps. The 34 hectares are farmed sustainably, and nine bottles in ten are white, mostly Sauvignon Blanc. The reds are mainly Gamay and Cabernet Franc.

These are wines to drink young and fresh. A short, cool soak on the skins before fermenting in steel brings out the grapes' natural aromas. Thierry even makes an orange wine from Sauvignon Blanc.
