Domaine Sautereau

The Sautereau family have made wine in Crézancy, seven kilometres south-west of Sancerre, since 1683. David Sautereau, the tenth generation, runs it today and makes modern, likeable wines at fair prices.

Winery at Crézancy, Loire.

He works in a small, spotless cellar and calls his wines sincere Sancerre. The 22 hectares are spread across Crézancy, Bué and Sancerre, on chalky caillottes, Kimmeridgian limestone and clay, which gives him plenty of choice when blending. The vines are farmed organically.

Expect Sancerre with a mineral edge and gooseberry notes, plus a Pinot Noir rosé full of strawberry and raspberry, and a bright, supple red.
