Dominio do Bibei

Javier Dominguez founded Dominio do Bibei in 2001. It is one of the estates behind the modern rise in quality in Ribeira Sacra, a historic corner of Galicia in north-west Spain.

The Romans planted vines here, but phylloxera and civil war drove many families away. Javier arrived in the late 1990s, drawn by the old vines and wild landscape. His family's estate in Quiroga-Bibei covers 140 hectares, 45 under vine, on a steep north-facing slope of schist and granite.

The winery works by gravity, with wild yeasts, separate plots and concrete eggs, large casks and old barrels. Mencía leads the reds, with other local grapes alongside. The whites lean on Godello and Albariño. The style is fresh, bright and made for food.
