du Rouët
Château du Rouët in Provence has belonged to the Savatier family since 1840, and the fifth generation runs it today. At first the estate sold pine wood and cork from its forest. Vines came in 1927, planted as a firebreak.
The first bottled wine followed in 1945, to bring in money after the hard war years. Now wine is at the heart of things. Brothers Martin and Matthieu Savatier share the work: Martin runs the vineyards and Matthieu makes the wine.
Their 85 hectares sit in the foothills of the Estérel mountains on red volcanic rock, at 560 metres. Sunny days, the Mistral and sea breezes give fresh, elegant wines, including a pale, delicate rosé.
