Familia Castaño

Familia Castaño, based in Yecla in Murcia, has worked hard to give Monastrell the respect it deserves. Back in the 1980s, when the grape went only into bulk wine and blends, they started bottling it on its own.

Today Daniel Castaño and his family farm 600 hectares, 80% of it Monastrell, with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Macabeo and Chardonnay too. The old dry-farmed vines grow at around 750 metres on sandy limestone.

The wines are rich and warm, true to southern Spain, and are known for great value. There is plenty of organic wine in the range, and the height keeps everything fresh and clean.
