Finca Sandoval
Wine writer Víctor de la Serna set up Finca Sandoval in 1998, and it helped put the overlooked Manchuela region on the map. Today local businessman Angel Garcia-Cordero leads the estate, with Valencian winemaker Javi Revert in charge since 2019.
They farm 26 hectares of organic vines at 700 to 1,000 metres, on the Cuenca mountain slopes. The oldest are local Bobal, Monastrell and Garnacha, including some very old Bobal on its own roots. There is Syrah too, grown from Château de Beaucastel cuttings.
Javi uses wild yeasts, whole bunches and less new oak, for fresh, lively reds and a white from rare local grapes.
