Finca Valpiedra

Finca Valpiedra is a single vineyard in Rioja Alta, so good that a winery was built right in the middle of it. The 80-hectare estate sits in a loop of the Ebro, between the towns of Fuenmayor and Cenicero.

Its three terraces of pebbly river soil hold warmth and moisture, and those stones, or piedra, shape the wine. It runs more like a Bordeaux château than a usual Rioja bodega, and it is the only Rioja member of Grandes Pagos de España.

The reds use Tempranillo with a little Graciano and Maturana, and there is a rare pure Garnacha too. The white comes from Viura vines more than 120 years old, plus three other local grapes.
