Goats do Roam
Goats do Roam is the cheeky label from Charles Back, the man behind Fairview in Paarl. When it first came out it caused a bit of a stir in France, and it has since become known for great quality at a fair price.
The name has a good story. Fairview keeps a herd of goats, whose milk goes into the farm's cheeses. The tale goes that Charles's young son Jason left a gate open, and a few curious goats wandered into the vines and munched on the ripest grapes.
The wines are easy-drinking Rhône-style blends. The white mixes Viognier, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, and the red is Shiraz with Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault. There is also a Sangiovese and Cabernet blend with an Italian twist.
