Guillaume Chanudet
Guillaume Chanudet is a farmer first. His family have grown vines in Fleurie for five generations, and he made his first wine in 2014.
His grandfather ran a vine nursery, and every vine the family own came from their own cuttings rather than clones. That is very rare in France. Guillaume did not have to take on the vineyards, but he could see how good the old vines were. He has seven hectares, almost all in Fleurie, with a little in Moulin-à-Vent.
He ferments whole bunches, with a short ten-day maceration in concrete to keep things fresh. He has even gone back to his grandfather's way of mixing early and late rootstocks, because he found it gives better balance. As he says, we should take time to learn from the past.
