Heidi Schröck & Söhne

Heidi Schröck's family have been making wine in Rust, a few miles from Hungary, for over 300 years. She took over the 10-hectare estate from her father in 1983 and has made it one of the best known in Austria.

Heidi has done a lot for Austrian wine. She helped bring back old local grapes like Furmint, was the first woman to earn the title Master of Viticulture and Winemaking from the wine school in Eisenstadt, and in 2001 founded '11 Women & Their Wines' to support women in the trade.

Her vines face southeast on the west shore of Lake Neusiedl and get lots of sun. She grows Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St Laurent and Furmint, and the misty lakeside autumns are perfect for sweet wines. Her twin sons Johannes and Georg joined her in 2019.
