Higham Vineyard
Higham Vineyard is a young English estate on the Suffolk side of the Stour Valley. Local man David Alston set it up in 2019, on the gentle south-facing slope where John Constable painted his view of Higham village.
The 10 acres were once farmland, left unused for more than fifty years. Today they grow mainly Pinot Noir, in six different clone and rootstock pairings, on clay and flint soils.
David looks after the vines himself. The wine is made by New Zealander Nick Lane at Defined Wines, a contract winery that works with small local growers. Nick knows cool-climate grapes well and has a fine touch with Pinot Noir.
