Joel Gott
Joel Gott may seem laid-back, but don't let that fool you. He is a fifth-generation West Coast winemaker and restaurant owner with a real gift for finding good grapes and blending them, just as he sources the best for the fish tacos at his Gott's Roadside restaurants.
His wines are modern Californian classics, held in check but with plenty of that sunny generosity, and they are very good value.
His wife Sarah is director of winemaking. She was previously head winemaker at Joseph Phelps, so between them they know a thing or two, and it shows in the glass.
