Joostenberg Estate

Joostenberg is a small family wine farm where Paarl meets Stellenbosch. A Swedish settler first farmed here in the late 1600s, and the Myburgh family bought it in 1879. They have been here ever since.

For several decades the grapes went to a local co-op. Then in 1999 two brothers from the fifth generation, Tyrrel and Philip Myburgh, brought winemaking back to the farm. They wanted wines with character and a real sense of place, made with as little meddling as they could manage.

The farm went organic and was certified in 2012. Even now, few South African estates are fully certified organic like this one.
