Karavitakis

The Karavitakis family have grown grapes near Chania, in the west of Crete, for more than 80 years. Things really changed in 1998, when Manolis Karavitakis gave the estate a shake-up. He cut yields and farmed with a lighter touch, and quality leapt.

Over the next twenty years Karavitakis became one of the leading wineries on Crete. Manolis's son Nikos now runs it, farming 60 hectares across the island.

The focus is on local grapes, especially Vidiano, a peachy white, and Kotsifali, an elegant red that loves food. The wines have plenty of appeal for drinkers anywhere but still taste of Crete.
