La Giustiniana

La Giustiniana has 110 hectares of vines around Rovereto, right in the heart of Gavi. The land once belonged to a Benedictine convent, and it was the monks who planted the first vines.

In 1625 the Giustiniani, soldiers from the old Republic of Genoa, bought the land, and even then there were 40 hectares of vines making wine. Today Magda Pedrini manages the estate.

The focus is Gavi di Gavi, made from the Cortese grape. Two single vineyards sit next to each other at 300 metres but on quite different soils, one marl and sand, the other clay. One gives a more open, fruity wine, the other a tighter, more mineral one that ages well.
