La Prevostura
La Prevostura is a historic estate in Lessona, in northern Piedmont. Its former owners, the La Marmora family, played a part in Italian unification. When it came up for sale in 2019, Luca De Marchi of nearby Proprietà Sperino jumped at the chance.
His business partners work in textiles in Biella, next door. The textile boom was one of the reasons wine faded here in the past, so their interest now feels like a real turn of fortune. Together they took on winemaker Maurizio Forgia to make scented wines that taste of Lessona.
The four hectares sit lower and warmer than Sperino's vines, on clay-rich soils. Nebbiolo is the main grape, with a little Vespolina.
