Lagar de Pintos

Lagar de Pintos is a little family-run estate in Rías Baixas, in the Salnés Valley, a few miles from the Atlantic beaches. Sisters Marta and Carmen Castro-Pintos run it from their traditional Galician manor house.

The farm has been in the family for four generations and once kept sheep and cows. Their grandfather planted vines in the 1950s, and their father Pepe brought the place up to date in the 1980s, as Albariño took off.

Marta makes the wine and looks after 5.5 hectares of organic Albariño, with help from consultant Dominique Roujou de Boubée. The vines are split into seven plots of granite and sand, picked up to 20 days apart. Each plot ferments with wild yeasts and rests on its lees, giving zesty, saline Albariño.
