Laroche La Chevalière

Michel Laroche, the man behind Domaine Laroche in Chablis, spent ten years looking for a spot in the Languedoc with Chablis-like limestone for Chardonnay. In 1995 he found it near Béziers, bought the La Chevalière vineyards and built a winery there.

Géraud Blanc now heads the winemaking. The estate has 45 hectares across three vineyards, each planted with the grapes that suit it best. Yields have come down, many vines are farmed organically and certification is on the way. They also buy from local growers who meet Géraud's high standards.

The Chardonnay grows at 400 metres and is made without oak, Chablis-style, for a pure, fresh wine. There is Viognier and Pinot Noir too.
