Le Mortelle
Le Mortelle is a beautiful estate in the Maremma, on the Tuscan coast. The Antinori family have owned it since 1999. The name comes from mortella, the wild myrrh that grows along this stretch of coast.
Looking after local plants and wildlife matters a lot here. Alongside the vines there are fifteen hectares of organic orchards. The climate is warm, but sea breezes keep things fresh, and Cabernet Franc loves it. It brings lovely perfume and freshness to the red.
For the white, Vermentino, the classic grape of this coast, sits with Viognier and Ansonica. Ansonica is the same grape as Sicily's Inzolia, and it is doing very well in the Maremma.
