Les Caves de Richemer

Les Caves de Richemer is a co-operative on the Languedoc coast, between the Mediterranean and the Étang de Thau lagoons. It looks after 1,000 hectares of vines in the Hérault, all farmed sustainably.

The name has a good story. In the 1800s a modest grower called Henri Richet made his fortune so fast, trading wine out of Marseillan's old port, that people nicknamed him 'Henri de Richemer'. Their emblem, the seahorse, lives in the lagoon.

The vines sit just outside the Picpoul de Pinet area, so the grape goes on the label as Piquepoul. Limestone soils and sea breezes keep the grapes fresh. Head winemaker Florian Masson uses cool steel tanks for bright, citrusy whites, including Terret, an old local grape that copes well with hot summers.
