Mandrarossa

Mandrarossa is the top range from Cantine Settesoli, a big co-operative in south-west Sicily with 6,000 hectares of vines and 2,000 members. The vineyards are around Selinunte, where you can still see the ruins of an ancient Greek town.

Winery at Menfi, Sicily.

The first wines came in 1999, and in 2021 Mandrarossa got its own winery, powered by one of the largest solar set-ups in Italian wine. Consultant Alberto Antonini, head winemaker Mimmo De Gregorio and soil expert Pedro Parra chose 500 hectares from 160 growers, close to the sea, for these wines.

They mapped the soils to find the best sites, and rate limestone highest. The range covers Sicilian grapes like Grillo, Grecanico and Nero d'Avola, plus Syrah, Chardonnay and Fiano.
