Maturana Wines
Maturana Wines is a family project in Chile's Maule Valley, run by brothers José Ignacio and Sebastián Maturana. It grew out of disaster: the 2010 earthquake destroyed their family home and vineyards.
They could have gone back to selling grapes to the big brands. Instead they started again from scratch and chose to make their own, finer wines. In 2011 José went to Burgundy to see how small growers make top wine.
Back home they set out to make wines with a real sense of place that honour Chile's old ways. They work with old vines, at least 70 years old, farmed sustainably, and use old methods such as skin contact and fermenting in amphorae.
