Monrouby

Monrouby is a little Languedoc village near Pomérols. Its wines come from Matt Thomson of Blank Canvas and Marguerite Vasseur, a winemaker who ferments several grapes separately because the fruit is so good.

The vines grow on low hills by the Bassin de Thau. Summers are dry, but breezes off the lagoon and the Mediterranean ease the stress on the vines. Expect a fresh, unoaked Grenache Blanc, a Chardonnay with melon and a round feel, and a Syrah and Carignan red with spicy red fruit. Good value all round.
