Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant was founded in 1921 in Pokolbin, in the Hunter Valley, by Maurice O'Shea. He is often called the father of modern Australian winemaking.

Winery at Pokolbin, New South Wales.

O'Shea studied wine in Montpellier from the age of 16, then came home and bought a hillside vineyard. At a time when Australia mostly made fortified wine, and without electricity or refrigeration, he set out to make top table wine, and inspired the winemakers who came after him.

Four of the estate's vineyards are among the most historic in Australia, with Shiraz first planted in 1880 and Semillon in 1946. It has had new owners since 2021, winemaker Adrian Sparks leads the team, and every wine now comes from the estate's own vines. Expect classic unoaked Hunter Semillon that ages well, and elegant Shiraz.
