Mullineux

Mullineux was founded in 2007 by Chris and Andrea Mullineux in Riebeek-Kasteel, in the Swartland. They chose it for its old vineyards on granite and schist, and Platter's has named them Winery of the Year five times.

Summers in the Swartland are warm and dry, with a cool afternoon breeze off the Atlantic, so they rarely need to spray. Their farming is sustainable and regenerative. Native plants such as fynbos grow among the vines and house insects that keep pests down, and rows follow the contours of the land to stop erosion. They were certified organic in 2025.

They work with three main soils, granite, schist and iron, and make Chenin Blanc and Syrah that show off each one. They also make sweet straw wine from air-dried old-vine Chenin.
