Producer Mendoza, Argentina
Pacheco Pereda
Pacheco Pereda was founded in Mendoza in 2010 by Alejandro Bulgheroni, to grow grapes sustainably in Argentina. It now has one of the country's biggest certified organic vineyard holdings.
The name remembers the migrant families who came to Argentina in the 20th century to farm, before industrial farming arrived. The vineyards are in Luján de Cuyo, at Finca Alto Agrelo and Finca Pedemonte. In 2010 the team dug 500 pits to map the soils, then split the land into 74 plots, each with the grape that suits it best.
Natural corridors through the vines help wildlife, and the winery is part of the '4 per 1000' plan from the COP21 climate talks, to build healthy soils that lock up carbon. Winemaker Hernan Rinaldini works with consultant Alberto Antonini.
