Producer Veneto, Italy
Pieropan
The Pieropan family have made wine in Soave since the 1890s. In the early 1930s they became the first producer to put the name Soave on a label.
In 1970 Nino Pieropan stepped in after his father and went on to make the very first single-vineyard Soave. Since he died in 2018, his sons Andrea and Dario have run the estate. Their 58 hectares sit on the stony Soave Classico hills, on volcanic basalt plus the area's only outcrop of limestone.
Whites are the heart of it: scented, zesty Soave, from crisp and unoaked to richer barrel-fermented styles, plus a sweet Recioto from dried grapes. Since 1999 they have also made Valpolicella and Amarone from 16 hectares of vines they own in the Val d'Illasi.
